About Ron Taylor
Personal Info
Born in 1955, Ron Taylor has been developing works of art in both Saskatchewan and Alberta for over 20 years. My studio is located at 249 Poplar Bay on the south end of Pigeon Lake, an hour south of Edmonton, Alberta. I also do occasional work at my home studio in Calgary.
My upbringing was in Saskatchewan and I went to Elementary School (Rosemont) and High School (Luther College) in Regina. I then took my university in Saskatoon at the University of Saskatchewan. A one year stint as a teacher in Manitoba ended when I decided to move back to Saskatchewan and pursue a career in sports administration.
That resulted in a twelve year career with Sask Sport Inc., first as Program Coordinator, then Communications Coordinator. It was at this time where I was given projects which would allow me to begin learning some of the creative tools I currently use. My graphic design/video production business started in 1989 in Regina.
I moved to Calgary in 1992 and worked in the communications field until 1999, when I re-launched Taylor Creative as an Alberta company. In 2008, I began re-exploring my artistic side.
Family Life
I have been married for 12 years and have the pleasure of keeping one furry child who will never grow up. My wife was able to retire early from the energy sector and we have a house in central Calgary (Park Hill) as well as our place right on Pigeon Lake.
Interests
Sports have always been a big interest and I am an avid follower. I am also a nationally certified coach in two sports and have coached provincial championship teams in both (soccer and football).
Art is also a passion and I have been working at it since I could pick up a pencil and brush. It’s only now, as I move into my middle years that I have acted upon this insatiable desire to create visual art pieces. With any luck, they will move people and judging by the response I have gotten so far in this new venture, the future is bright.
I have traveled to over 30 countries and have seen both the penthouse and the basement in regard to my travelling style. If anything, experiencing other cultures has certainly given me a balanced perspective on life and I have learned to take nothing for granted, including our very generous western lifestyle.
I am a news junkie and like to look at all sides of a news story before passing judgment. (Cold War travel does that to a person). I also know my way around a kitchen and am not adverse to experimenting on friends and family, sometimes with spectacular results either way.
I consider myself to be a personable sort, sometimes quiet, sometimes not and I like to think that I give everyone a fair shake both personally and business-wise.
Art Education and Exhibitions
I am new to the traditional world of Art and at this point, I have nothing to add to this section. The time I have spent working with shape and colour over the years is my only formal education and I am so new to displaying my work that I do not have any shows or reviews to display here. I'm a "newbie", but I'm also very confident in my ability to do good art work, so I would think that this section won’t be a blank one for long.
